Sporting Kansas meets up with the Crew for the Second Time on July 28 at the Livestrong Sporting Park, Kansas City
Sporting Kansas City Preview
The boys from Kansas City renew their Midwestern rivalry with the Columbus Crew for the second time this season when the clubs face off Saturday, this time in their home turf, Livestrong Sporting Park. The last time the two teams met was in Columbus territory at the Crew Stadium. Kansas City annihilated the Crew. Just a few days after progressing to the final of the U.S. Open Cup, Kansas City went on the road and claimed three points against Columbus. The Crew held nearly 62 percent of possession and only faced two shots on target, but still lost 2-0.
Playing at home field is definitely an advantage for Sporting but if a hometown upset can happen to Columbus, then of course, the same can happen for Kansas City as well. During their preview two matches, Sporting Kansas City didn’t fare well. Losing to Houston Dynamo 2-1 last July 19 and a draw with New England 0-0 just recently on the 22nd, Kansas City may be headed in one direction.
Columbus Crew Preview
The Columbus Crew is currently in 6th place within the Eastern Conference with 25 games winning seven, losing seven, along with four games ending in draws. Last July 15, they were annihilated by Eastern second placers, Sporting Kansas City. Their five previous games saw two wins and three losses.
Sporting Kansas City vs Columbus Crew Predictions: Sporting Kansas City 3-1
Any fan can look at it from different angles: maybe the Crew will play better in enemy territory or maybe they’ve realized that they need to get their act together and are hungry for a victory against their old Midwestern rival so this time the Crew will come out victorious.
Let’s face it! Sporting Kansas City is more solid in both defensive and attack formations. Their last match ended in a 2.5-0 victory and this is likely to repeat on the 28th.
